Spaceport a further boost to Cornwall’s space capability

Cornwall’s role in the world’s second largest space and aerospace cluster has just taken a huge step forward, with the announcement of a number of investments aiming to boost the region’s status in the global space and aerospace sectors.

The most notable investment was announced at Farnborough Air Show today (Mon 16 July), where Spaceport Cornwall and Virgin Orbit confirmed their partnership tomake Cornwall the UK’s first horizontal launch spaceport. This exclusive partnership will not only raise the profile of the region within the space and aerospace sectors, but could also bring £25 million into the Cornish economy annually.

This follows the announcement from Peter Hargreaves in May of this year, confirming a £24 million investment into Cornwall’s Goonhilly satellite station.
